I would often leave social gatherings where people were blindly abusing themselves with too much drink etc., and find myself painting, making music or gardening, walking in nature - anything that felt right and allowed me to orchestrate experiences for myself that created a sense of peace and harmony. I was taking ownership of my experiences instead of blindly following others around like a puppy dog and it felt good. It was a way of setting myself free from the need to blame others if things did not go well. If I created the experience, and it was not pleasant, I had only myself to blame.
If a person assumes responsibility for every experience they have, regardless of how pleasant or unpleasant it may be, they don't think about blame. If you blame circumstances or other people as the cause of your pain, you have to change the other person or situation in order to feel better. In so doing, you give away your power to another and hand over control of how you are feeling. Mismanaging your life from a perspective of blame is very disempowering. And, attempting to change anyone entails a massive energy expenditure leaving you weak and vulnerable to spiritual attack.
But when you accept responsibility for all that happens in your life, the good and the not-so-good, you learn to ask yourself 'how did I create this experience'? By thinking in this way, you begin to actively participate in creating your own circumstances and experiences through the choices you make moment by moment.
Responsibility empowers and blame disempowers. It matters a great deal how much acceptance you feel toward this concept. Learning that your personal energy always follows one pattern or another and that you can consciously change energy patterns to bring about experiences that are spiritually healthy instead of unhealthy is a skill. And because finely tuned skills require practice, the habit of practice itself is an energy pattern you can fine tune. Knowing how to clear your energy around circumstances as they unfold is a valuable life-skill and must be cultivated if you are interested in taking responsibility for your feelings and therefore your actions and ultimately the shape of your life.
Next on Conscious Energy, I will explore the two very different energy states.
